Call for Papers 2024

None

September 16 – 17, 2024 | University of Notre Dame

The Church Properties Initiative’s annual fall conference convenes property decision-makers, clergy, real estate professionals, non-profit leaders, civic actors, and academics to advance reflection on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing stewards of faith-based property, and to discover the significance of current experiences in a broad empirical, theoretical, and historical context.

For scholars working at the intersection of faith and place, the conference provides an opportunity to encounter researchers working on the same subject in other fields, to seek input from engaged stakeholders, and to share the fruits of scholarly work with practitioners.

Past papers have addressed urban religious history, the sociology of congregational survival, structural resiliency, Geographic Information Systems applications, theological aesthetics, land use regulations, social service impacts on poverty outcomes, and Catholic social teaching on property, among other subjects.

Accepted papers will be organized into 75-minute panels with each presenter allotted 25 minutes including a question and answer period.

Submit a 250-word Abstract and Curriculum Vitae by June 1, 2024, as PDF attachments to churchproperties@nd.edu, subject line “Conference Paper Proposal 2024: [Your First and Last Name]” for consideration.

Submitters of accepted papers will be notified by June 15, 2024, and will receive discounted conference registration. Conference registration is complimentary for Notre Dame faculty and graduate students.

Proposals for case studies, topical presentations, and lightning talks are invited via a separate submission form.
