Students propose a redevelopment of a soon-to-be-vacated church property to their classmates and real world project stakeholders.

RE 30790: Church Real Estate: Land and the Lord

This Catholicism and the Disciplines (CAD) and real estate minor elective course examines the global real estate portfolio of the Catholic Church as an expression of its mission and an opportunity for responsible innovation. The first half of the course covers the empirical scope of the Church’s land and buildings, their purpose and function within the life of the Church, how Church property is governed under canon and civil law, and change in the material expression of the Church over time and across space. Engaging sources within the Catholic tradition and voices from real estate practice, the second half of the course will develop strategic and normative principles to guide the future management of the real assets of the Church, which students will apply in the context of a real-world project.
